PROJECT PROTECT: ENVIRONMENT

PROTECT PROJECT: THE ENVIRONMENT

Written by Maffi Arcaina (10 Martinelli)

WAYS TO PROTECT AND CARE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT BY ENGAGING THE COMMUNITY IN LEADING AN ENVIRONMENTALLY CONSCIOUS LIFESTYLE:

1. Don’t buy single-use plastic

If getting a new pot for your garden do not buy plastic, instead reuse the plastic bottle and make it a colorful pot. Having this habit can reduce plastic bottles around that can make your environment messy or polluted.  Over a hundred bottles are ending up in oceans and landfill if bottles are being thrown up just somewhere. If this habit continues, the environment will be ruined just in case.

It is important to the environment that we recycle so that we can keep the plastic bottles out of our landfills. Plastic does not simply go away, but will sit in a landfill for long periods of time if not properly handled. This can cause a lot of problems.

Recycling plastic bottles helps to conserve space that can be used for another waste. It can even help us to reduce energy usage. It reduces the consumption of fresh raw materials, reduces the cause of water pollution and air pollution. Reducing the use of plastic can also help us protect the environment from any pollution.

Is Recycling Always a Good Thing?

For many materials, recycling is cost-effective and good for the environment. Take aluminum, which can be recycled indefinitely using 95 percent less energy than it takes to produce new aluminum. For paper, the benefit is clear: one ton of recycled newsprint saves about 15 trees and 7,000 gallons of water, according to estimates from the Environmental Protection Agency.

Recycling plastic conserves the fossil fuel — natural gas or oil — used to manufacture it. But plastics are usually “downcycled” into lower-quality and lower-value products, such as carpet fiber or car parts. And while it’s true that virtually any plastic can technically be recycled, that doesn’t mean it actually will be.

“More than 2,600 plastic bottles a year would be stopped from entering our environment altogether if just 50 people packed a flask instead of buying a bottle. Small changes can make a big difference.”

2. Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle

People often forgot reusing and recycling their things sometimes. Reusing things won’t hurt you. Instead, it helps you saves time, money, energy, and resources. Reusing lengthen the life of a thing while recycle means processing an item into a new material for a use. Recycling is the process of collecting and processing materials that would otherwise be thrown away as trash and turning them into new products. Recycling can benefit your community and the environment.

Reuse and recycle is quite similar but they are not really related. Be careful in making either these two to avoid hurting yourself or other ones’. Reduce is lessening the use of the things.

What the importance is of reduce recycle and reuse?

Recycling prevents the emissions of many greenhouse gases and water pollutants, and saves energy. Using recovered material generates less solid waste. Recycling helps to reduce the pollution caused by the extraction and processing of virgin materials.

What is the importance of 3rs?

The three R’s – reduce, reuse and recycle – all help to cut down on the amount of waste we throw away. They conserve natural resources, landfill space and energy. Plus, the three R’s save land and money communities must use to dispose of waste in landfills.

“Reducing the amount of “stuff” you consume has the greatest benefits for the planet. It’s best to avoid waste in the first place, so think more carefully about your purchases. Re-using items saves the natural resources and energy needed to manufacture new ones - as well as saving money.”

3. Plant a lot of trees

Trees naturally remove noxious substances and carbon from the soil, which is hugely beneficial to other plants and crops. Their roots pull deep minerals to the surface; their foliage also decomposes and adds even more nutrition to the soil. Trees do nothing but purify the soil we use for agriculture and biodiversity.

As trees grow, they help stop climate change by removing carbon dioxide from the air, storing carbon in the trees and soil, and releasing oxygen into the atmosphere. Trees provide many benefits to us, every day.

Trees provide food and oxygen. They help save energy, clean the air, and help combat climate change. Trees help us a lot in any ways. Sadly, people had been destroying the forest by cutting trees and using it for business. Without trees, a lot of calamities happen such as landslide and flood. Now, a lot of people are suffering from floods whenever there is a calamity because there is no tree to absorb water. Deforestation has been negatively affecting natural ecosystems, biodiversity, and the climate. That’s why, mining and deforestation shouldn’t be permitted and be illegal.

What is the importance of trees?

Trees gives an important role to our lives. It can produce oxygen that we need to breath. Trees reduce the amount of storm water runoff, which reduces erosion and pollution in our waterways and may reduce the effects of flooding. Many species of wildlife depend on trees for habitat. Trees provide food, protection, and homes for many birds and mammals.

The benefits you get after planting trees:

ü  More oxygen in our air

ü  Fresh air

ü  Natural habitats for endangered and extinct species

ü  Healthier soil and natural humidity control

ü  More natural carbon sinks and reduced greenhouse gases

ü  Dependable salaries and careers around the world
